Wow, where have you been

Has it really been 1 1/2 months since my last post. As always, it usually is a by product of my play. Instead of one mega / uber post to get caught up, I will gradually get back into it.

So, about 1 1/2 months to go, I was waiting for tables (don't have to do that anymore, do we?) so I looked up the heads up tables and saw one of the leading Headsup guys. So what do I do? I sit down with him. Needless to say, I got crushed. My full houses were running into quads, he was flopping full houses with the hammer (against my pocket queens), etc, etc... Throw those type beats and the fact that he outplayed me, led to a very disappointing 4 figure loss. This really took the air out of my sales.

I continued to run a bad for a few days. I have finally gotten back to normal or at least as normal as I can be. I'll be continuing to work on this.

So, that should do for a start. I'll leave this post with one pet peeve. Since my work has blocked reading blogspot blogs, I really hate it when people just post a few sentences to things like bloglines and google reader. There are a few blogs that I just can't read anymore since I can't get to them. Why do you just post portions?

A Picture instead of a Post

So, I have not been posting lately? Sometimes, poker is not very fun. Case in point, here is my graph for the past 2 months.

Of course, with rakeback and bonus make me positive for the two months; but I'm more concerned with my play.

The funny thing is that it is the 25c/50c stakes that are killing me.

I was almost -$900 at those stakes over the 2 months.

About +$525 for 50c/$1 and about +80 at 1/2.

Speaking of 1/2, I was +$450 at 1/2 Pot Limt and -$369 at No limit. Looking at some of the hands at 1/2 No Limit and it was mostly coolers such as:

AK vs KK on 742KA board (-153)

3Q vs 77 on a 7Q35J board (-215)

77 vs AA on a 2A743 board (-118)

AQ vs T9 on a J283Q board (-93)

JJ vs Q5 on a 66Q33 board (-93)

I remember that last one because it was against a guy who played practically every hand.

I want to send out Congrats to my Missouri State Basketball Team. A team that finished in last place in the Missouri Valley last year under first year coach Cuanzo Martin. It was kind of funny. We finished last; but nobody was upset with the 1st year coach as we saw some good signs. Now, we were definitely frustrated as we hadn't finished in the bottom half of the league in many, many years and were accustomed to 18+ win seasons; but sometimes you just know. Here's an example. I remember Tony Romo's first game. He came out and threw 3 interceptions; but you just knew he had it and would be a good quarterback. Similarly, we just knew with Martin.

Well, the Bears have started out 6-0 with wins over Auburn and Tulsa so things are getting exciting again in Mo State Basketball land. One thing is that Vegas hasn't quite caught on either. Last night they played Arkansas-Little Rock. Originally UALR was a 1 pt favorite. By game time, Mo State was 3; but I didn't get home in time bet on the game. Now, I rarely, if ever, bet on college sports and especially with my teams involved; but I was salivating at this line. I got home 3 minutes before game time; but Bodog wouldn't let me make the bet which is OK by me as I was only going to put $25 on the game. Anyway, the Bears rolled over the Trojans; although the lead did get down to 9 towards the end; but the game nor the spread was really never questioned. I think the only game they have lost by the spread was where they were a 23 point favorite against Maryland-Eastern Shore where they were tied at half and went on to win by something like 15 or 17 points.

They play a bad Air Force team at home on Saturday so I expect the spread to be double digits so I'll just watch the game and enjoy. They are a young team (only 1 senior) so there will be some fall backs along the way; but that is to be expected. I'm pretty confident that they won't be finished 2nd to last in the conference as they were predicted to. I believe we are back to the top half again.. hopefully better.

No Online Poker Last Night

I played in my monthly WSOP League. 36 people, 6 pays. I made my second final table; but finished 8th. My AQ lost to KJ. It happens.

I'm off work tomorrow so I hope to get in some hands late tonight and tomorrow morning. I also am having a home game on Saturday so it should be a fun weekend. We are also celebrating my daughters 6th birthday on Saturday. Her birthday isn't until around Christmas; but we like to seperate it a little bit.

Just Can't Get anything Going and Give Up or Shove?

Congrats to my Missouri State Bears for taking down Auburn last night in college basketball. Sure Auburn isn't a huge deal in the SEC as far as basketball goes these days; but for a team that finished last in the Missouri Valley last year, we will take this win and hopefully build on it.

As far as poker goes, it continues to be frustrating. I just can't get a string of winning sessions going last night as I finished with a -32 bb/100 win (or should I say loss rate) over 960 hands. Thank heavens for rakebake as I am still positive for the month some how. Without rakebake, I am slightly below zero.

Tom Terrific? and Frustrating Weekend

I was all set to say something about the dominance of Tom Brady; but even he can't overcome a crazy, crazy coaching decision. The Patriots more or less handed the game to the Colts last night. Regardless of whether the spot was right or not, that was a bad coaching decision.

Headsup WSOP, 1/2 Hand and Adding to Blog List

It seems that the WSOP Headsup battle was a little anit-climatic... at least in relation to the rest of the final table. It did go 3 hours so I guess that is something. One thing that I have been lazy in doing is linking up guys that are commenting regularly on my blog. For whatever reason, my top commenters widget has stopped working; but here are some new folks that you find on my now Top 16 blogs.

Just the facts... a low stakes poker blog. I met Poker Meister on the friendly PL tables as I continue to donate to bankroll. He posts regularly and actually shows his results in the post (hidden though.. You have to click to see). I need to learn that trick as I think I like that much better than putting in the comments.


Hammer Player's Poker Blog. Love him or hate him, Hoy continues to put out the novel length posts. Maybe now that baseball is over, he'll post about poker again. ;-).


Just Sayin'. Fellow Midwesterner, Memphis, also has been a frequent commenter here and I truly appreciate it. The thing I like about his comments is that he finds the obscure little one sentence which is usually a big deal to me; but not really to others and comments on that... such as have a nice vacation or nice job in top 25... things like that. He is also a bridge player which is something that I always thought I would enjoy. My parents played a lot; but Mrs Wonka is definitely not a card player.

Doom Continues and Hand against known player

To say this feeling of running bad is familiar would be a gross under statement. I will spare you all the cooler/bad beat type stories because they are just not that interesting. While it wasn't the loss of $900 like the other night, it was half of that and it still hurts.

Thanks for the great comments yesterday. Taking away the results, I think the decision was close based on the type of players that I was playing.

I am still miffed on the hand played by Billy Kopp and Darvin Moon? I still remember it from when it happened and to see it happen on TV was even more painful. I still think the ultimate mistake was made by Moon calling the allin. What do you think?

Forty NIne Cents and a Hand with bottom two

Forty Nine Cents an hour. That is how I ended up this month. Truthfully, it was mostly tournaments that brought me down as I lost $300 on those silly super turbos and lost $300 on live tournments and live play. And if the truth really is known, if you take away one bad day on online play where I lost $900 in one night (2.81 hours), the month would have actually been OK. It would have been in the $43/hr range which I'm certainly ok with. Perhaps I should feel happy that I finished above water giving all of the above circumstances; especially over the last few days as things have felt eerily familiar to my big down turn where I couldn't win a hand to save my life.

Set Under Set... Good Times

Wow, I should not have said anything about being in the top 25 as I got hammered yestereday at PL50 for almost $240. Overall, it was just one of those days as I ended up losing $164 which is about what I made yesterday. Really, it has been one of those months. I guess it hasn't been that bad except for the really painful day last week.

I flopped sets yesterday at a normal 12.5%; but I just couldn't win with them. Two set under sets is really no fun. At least one time, I donated to this fish. At least I think it was him. I flopped a set and his aces turned a set. The things I do for my readers. Turn cards were especially bad for me yesterday; but that is poker. Love it or hate it, that is how it goes sometimes. You just have to come back the next game and start over. Maybe that is why they call it the grind ;-)

Ace Magnet

We all know that there are nicknames for hole cards. AA is American Airlines, Weapons of Mass Destruction, Rockets. 72o is the Hammer. 95 is the Dolly Parton, Pocket Kings are the Cowboys. Pocket Jacks are hooks.

Well, I have another name for Pocket Kings. Ace Magnet. It is amazing how many times an Ace is flopped when I have pocket kings. While I may be over exaggerating this, last night, I definitely wasn't.

I had pocket Kings 8 times which saw a flop 7 times. Out of those 7 times, an Ace flopped 6 times. Talk about an action killer. I did turn a set on one guy that had an ace which helped things out.

Well, it took awhile this month, but I have finally worked by way to the top 25 in PTR for 50PL. This month has been a struggle.

So yesterday, I am still a little tentative over my huge down day from last week; but I can't let that stop me; but having 12 All in Hands and not winning 8 of them doesn't help things. I was a favorite in 9 of them. The good news is that I still had a 33.74 bb/100 win rate over 1000 hands.

This hand I decided to call in position with the thoughts of bluffing my way through this hand against this opponent.

He is kind of a loose type players that only seems to cbet his good hands. His raising from UTG also means that he has something. Whether it is a pair or two high cards, we don't know yet.

Great Flop for me even though it didn't hit me. It is the kind of hand that would hit somebody cold calling. No flush draw; but there are straight draws and of course pair possibilities against a AQ+ KJs+ KQ type hand. He leads out less than half pot. What do you normally take of this? I took it as possible weakness and raised him. Dang.. he called.
