A Winning Weekend, I vaguely remember such a thing

Maybe a more appropriate title for this post is opposite weekend. There have been many weekends where I started off nicely only to see things go south quickly. Sundays are usually responsible for that. So this weekend, I hardly played on Sunday at all; however, I did get 3,099 hands in (which is not quite as many as this guy). I actually started off nearly 5 buyins down only to make a nice comeback and end up about 3 1/2 buyins. Not great; but anything positive these days, I'm counting as a victory. I'll show a graph at the end of the post.

I did have one hand against an aggressive guy. His stats were like 56/25/1.6. One thing I realize is that even these guys pick up hands. Let me know your thoughts here:

It was definitely a stats based hand, I had to believe I was ahead of his range; but does that make it so? I'll put his results in the comments a little bit later. As you know, one thing I struggle with is getting max value on my good hands; but on the other hand, I am also known to spew off some chips some time. Which one was this?

Now, here is a hand that I wish I would have seen a little more action.

Sweating and River Bet Question

Do you ever have something wrong with your car and then bring it to the auto mechanic and tell that it really is making this noise or something else similar and then when you bring it to him it doesn't make the noise? Or even in my line of work in the support business, people will complaining about something and when I go to check it out, they can't reproduce the problem. I say all of that to say this. I had a sweat session with a guy from Stoxpoker. His name is Matt Pethybridge. He did a leak finding video on Stox. While it was only an intro video, I still found a few nuggets in there. I then contacted him to take a look at my stats and he pointed out a few leaks that I continue to work on.

Last night, he sweated me playing 6 tables as I have had another tough week losing about 5 1/2 buyins at 50NL. So what happens, I win a couple of buyins. Most of it was just little things. Another part of it was that not many big hands came up.

I will post one hand that came up that we differed on what I should do (although it was close either way).

The villain in this hand is a 29/15/.8 player over just 38 hands.

Turn: ($11.50) 5d (2 players)

$28 in the pot and I have $36. Straight draw got there and JT got there. My thoughts were to bet and bet around $20. He was more in favor of check calling with the reasoning being that if I bet and he pushed, I would have to call and most likely be behind. What are your thoughts?

This hand is interesting because it goes to one leak of not getting max value on a hand; but on the other hand, not spewing dollars when you are behind by calling bets on river.

Have a nice day!!!

Will It Ever End?

Lost yet another 7 buyins at 50NL tonight. Looking at my chart below, you will see that I only should have lost one.

Of course I ran Kings into Aces again tonight, that seems standard these days.
I guess eventually it will end because I will run out of money.

Another 8

One word.... Numb.

Another 8 buyins last night. At least it was at the lower buyin so effectively in the grand scheme of things, it was only 4 buyins so I have that going for me. Maybe we should put and over/under bet where the streak will end.

No need to show hands. Coolers, Bad Calls, and Suckouts. Normal stuff.

I hope to be finishing up a leak finding session with a Stoxpoker guy tonight. I have to do something before I jump out the window.

Another 5

Broken record..crack...Broken Record.. Crack... Broken Record...

Yep, another 5 1/2 buyins last night

Same thing, different night. Started off with AK losing to AT. Luckily after my cbet, villain checked it down.

Then this hand came up.. Definitely a marginal call; but trying to make something happen.

I actually got lucky when my flopped set filled up on river after the villain had hit his gutter ball straight on the turn. I was hoping that my luck was turning. I was wrong. This hand pretty much sent me to the loony bin. I am sitting in a room with rubber walls as my losing streak has exceeded 40 buyins.

I played a little longer; but it was pretty much break even.

I'll be actually dropping down to 50NL which I obviously should have done sooner.

I hope things change.

Starting Things Off

I don't mean to sound like a broken record; but I continue to be in this brutal downswing. I have lost almost 10 buyins over the last 7 days. One thing that I want to talk about today is something that has been happening quite often these days.

Starting off the session bad. How does it affect our play, if at all? I would like to think that it doesn't make any difference as to how our play goes; but can that really be true? For example, this is how I started off yesterday:

1st hand. I got my money in as a favorite; albeit a slight favorite.

2nd hand. I thought something was up; but couldn't fold

3rd hand. That's just how I roll these days.

So, after about 15 minutes, I am down almost 1 1/2 buyins. The question remains do I or anybody change after this. I see a few possibilities.

1. Nothing changes and you continue to play your game.
2. You tighten up to try and avoid tough decisions. This can't be max EV over the long run
3. You try to slowplay to hit that big hand. I guess this is OK; but only for balancing reasons. You can't play the same everyhand or you will opponents will catch on... well some of them well
4. You can loosen up again trying to hit that big hand. Of course, this will lead to trouble although, it can work in the short term which is bad; but it may make you try it more.

As for me, I think I am guilty of all of the above. I'm not sure you can play the same after falling down early. Hopefully I'm wrong.

As for yesterday, the downward spiral at the beginning kept on going and was down over 2 1/2 buyins. I was able to make it back to even for the day; but it just wasn't a fun day. One thing that I am concentrating is making better laydowns on the turn. There were a couple of hands that I layed down that I might not normally such as flopping a straight; but folding to a scary board which including the board pairing and making a flush. Sounds like an easy fold; but I've not always been able to do it.

I'll keep pressing on for now and see how it goes.

Have a nice day!!

March, More of the Same

As you will see in the chart below, things are staying the same. I just can't get any momentum. Because of that, I am actually going to some leak finding coaching from somebody that I saw watching a Stoxpoker poker. I'm hopeful that this will help. Of course, this is just the start. Acting on those leaks will be the hard part.

Anyway, here is the chart for the month so far:

Welcome to My World

I was watching Fult Tilt Pokers Million Dollar Cash game the other day with Phil Ivey. He lost a hand where he most likely go sucked out on and he said... "Welcome to my world". I got a little chuckle out of that as he obviously is winning millions and millions of dollars. Of course, I'm sure that he does take his share of bad beats as people play back at him a lot.

Anyway, I had a "welcome to my world" kind of days one day this last weekend. As I am playing, I usually mark hands to go back and review. Here are a dozen hands that I marked to give you a glimpse of my world. happy reading!!!
