New PC and Doing the Right Thing

My computer has been on the fritz lately which has caused a long time to go by since I have last blogged. I finally broke down and just bought a new PC (as opposed to buying just a new hard drive). I still bought the hard drive and will use my old computer for the kids. Whether I really needed it or not, I bought a Dell Quad Core machine with 6GB of RAM. So far so good. We'll see how it goes.

I do have a lot of things on my mind; but really nothing to crazy important... except...

Doing the right thing.

As many others have already posted, there was a very unfortunate event that happened around Christmas. A friend of Vinnay's lost his house to a fire on Christmas morning. Things are tough for everybody; especially this time of year. But part of the Christmas is spirit is helping alleviate things for others as best as you can and this sounds like a perfect opportunity.

Check out this blog for more details. Every little bit helps I'm sure.

So instead of me donating a buyin to the poker fishes, I donated a buyin here. It's not much; but I hope it helps. It certainly wasn't something I felt obligated to do. I just thought it was the right thing to do.

That's it for now. December has been a tough times at the tables; but I will touch on that more in the upcoming days.

Have a Merry New Year!!!

Un-BCS-Lievable

A little disturbed today knowing that Oklahoma jumped Texas in the BCS standings although I pretty much knew it was coming. Now, Texas has to watch the Big 12 Championship came with 2 teams that it beat during the season. We need a miracle win by Mizzou. I live in Missouri so I know it would be a miracle win. But that would be great that a team could make it to the National Championship game and not even win the conference; although somehow we would probably get screwed there to and they would let USC go.

I'm so upset that I can't even continue posting. OK, I could, by I choose not to.

November was a good month and I will post more on that later this week.

Back to Reality

I knew it was going to come and it did last night... in spades.

I don't have a lot of time; but in fairness, I wanted to at least post something.

The basic gist of the story is that I was down 7 buyins last night. It was 10 at one point. It was back to 5 at one point; but then ultimately it ended up at 7. It was just one of those nights that even if you got it in good, you lost. I was stacked four times as a 80% favorite. There was a set over set stacking. There was a flopped dummy straight losing to a flopped nut straight. You know, those kind of things that happen when you play this game long enough. I must have got JackAce 30 times (27 last time I checked) and just could flop anything and when I did, it wasn't good enough. I was a loser with KK, QQ, JJ and TT. Etc. Etc.

I played BoDonk last night and was a big chip leader for a while; but gave it all back. I did make the final table; but ran into ThreeJacks Pocket Aces.

Have a good Turkey Day weekend.

Nice Weekend pretty much all around

I pretty much how a nice weekend all around from Sports to poker.

First let's talk about Friday's Hand.

The villain here is pretty much a maniac playing 57% of his hands while raising 41% and very aggressive with a 4.0 aggression factor.

Full Tilt Poker $0.50/$1 No Limit Hold'em - 6 players
The Official DeucesCracked.com Hand History Converter

BB: $145.85
UTG: $106.00
Hero (MP): $129.30
CO: $254.15
BTN: $426.05
SB: $108.50

Pre Flop: ($1.50) Hero is MP with Kh Kd
1 fold, Hero raises to $3.50, CO calls $3.50, 3 folds

Flop: ($8.50) Js Ts Qh (2 players)
Hero bets $5, CO calls $5

Again, pretty standard preflop and flop bets. I flop an over pair with and OESD so not bad.

Turn: ($18.50) Jd (2 players)
Hero bets $12, CO requests TIME, CO calls $12

Given his stats, I thought it was safe to fire another bullets as I most likely ahead. He takes a long, long time and finally just calls. I was fully expecting a push after him taking that much time; but he didn't

River: ($42.50) 8s (2 players)

Hero checks, CO bets $42.50, Hero requests TIME, Hero ??

Wow, could this river card be any worse? If he was drawing to the spades, he hit it. If he had a straight draw with a 9, he hit it. If he has a J, he wins. He bets the pot. From a maniacal type player, it seems like a bluff. What do you do?

As you can see I took my time and finally ended up folding. I think taking a river shot at this might have been the best play. Just a small blocking type bet of say $20. If he pushes, I can probably fold. Instead, he could represent many, many hands and I couldn't call.

Friday, was just poker night. I played a little longer to get points for Saturday as I wasn't sure how much I would be able to play on Saturday. Anyway, it was a good night of poker.

Saturday was a good sports day. It started off with my college, Missouri State opening up their new building with a win over Arkansas. MO State doesn't get to play schools from large conferences very often; but they have started off with 2 or their first 3 against Southeast Conference teams. They hung in with Auburn for a bit before losing by 15; but have come back to win the next two games against Central Michigan and Arkansas. MO St was picked to come in last place in the Missouri Valley Conference which is the first time that has ever happened as they are typically in the top half.

The big college football game Saturday was OU vs Texas Tech. As hard as it was, I was rooting for OU; however, I did not want them to destroy Tech as they did. While, Texas did remain at #2 in the polls, it looks as though they might lose that ranking next week if OU handles OSU.

And then on Sunday, The Cowboys took care of business. So sportswise, things went well. Not so much for my Fantasy teams; but what can you do.

Poker wise for the weekend, things went really well. Here is the chart.

My good fortune seems to be continue. I am enjoying the ride; but know that it can't last.

I'm even having thoughts of moving up a step to 200NL. Has anybody played both 100NL and 200NL to tell me any major differences (6max)? I'll finish out the month per my normal routine and see how it goes.

Onto the hand of the day. While there were some tough decisions this weekend; nothing was really too far out of the ordinary. I'll throw this one out there for comments.

SB is weak passive at 67/7/2.0 or small amount of hands
BB is more aggressive at 33/18/1.8 over 60 hands.

Full Tilt Poker $0.50/$1 No Limit Hold'em - 5 players

BB: $91.20
Hero (UTG): $112.30
CO: $104.40
BTN: $32.65
SB: $43.30

Pre Flop: ($1.50) Hero is UTG with 8s 8c
Hero raises to $3.50, CO calls $3.50, BTN calls $3.50, SB calls $3, BB calls $2.50

hmmm family pot

Flop: ($17.50) 6s 5c 4d (5 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $12, CO folds, BTN folds, SB calls $12, BB calls $12

OK.. not a terrible flop, let me take a shot here.

Turn: ($53.50) Ac (3 players)
SB checks, BB bets $12, Hero calls $12, SB raises to $27.80 all in, BB calls $15.80, Hero ??

I think the first call seems a little weak and then after check raise and a call, somebody would seem to have an ace. I've got odds; but is it worth it?

---------------

I did play a home tourney at JamyHawks house but went out right at the first break. I ran into a guy that hadn't really played holdem much and as it always seems to go, they catch cards. No matter what I had, he had better such as flush over flush. Finally, right before the break everybody (or most) limped to my BB. I probably had a little over 12 or 13 big blinds and pushed my JackAce. Of course the new guy says.. what the heck and calls with KTs and catches a Ten and I go home. Oh well, that is how it goes sometimes. I still had a good time meeting some new guys and it always fun playing live poker. Maybe next time, I'll do better.

Have a nice day!!!

Did anybody order a Cooler?

Well, did my blog about winning show it's ugly face tonight? Did the poker gods decide to punish me for posting positive results? We shall find out soon.

But first, let's talk about the hand from yesterday. Here it is again.

The villain here is a weak passive player seeing 38% of flops and only raising 2%.

Full Tilt Poker $0.50/$1 Pot Limit Hold'em - 5 players
The Official DeucesCracked.com Hand History Converter

UTG: $100.00
Hero (CO): $196.55
BTN: $51.90
SB: $100.50
BB: $41.30

Pre Flop: ($1.50) Hero is CO with 9d Ah
1 fold, Hero raises to $3.50, BTN calls $3.50, 2 folds

Standard raise from cutoff.

Flop: ($8.50) 6h 8c 3d (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $3, Hero raises to $10.25, BTN calls $7.25

I don't always C-bet. I typically C-bet around 70% of the time and I had check folded once or twice at this table most likely. So I check raise and he calls?? The call seemed weak to me given his stack size.

Turn: ($29.00) Kd (2 players)
Hero bets $15, BTN ??

First thing to note here are original stack sizes. BTN is only playing about 52BB. He is also very weak passive calling almost 40% of the hands while only raising 2% of them. These things add up to not a very good player and you are able to pick up pots from these guys. Well, at least typically you can.

Let's talk about this hand. Standard raise from cutoff. I am pretty much open raising any Ace from there. The only time I may not raise A9o is if I have been overly active in the past couple of hands.

So the flop missing me altogether and I am pretty much ready to give up on the hand. That is until the button decides to put a weakish bet out on the flop of less than half the pot. What could I do? I could easily fold as I am most likely behind. After a bit of thought, I wanted to test him to see how much he actually liked his hand and check raised him only to see him call.

Does this call seem strange to anybody else besides me? If he had something, he would have pushed given his stack size, don't would think? So usually when a call scares you, this one made me a little puzzled. Is he slow playing a monster type hand? I don't think so. Short stackers love to get it in early if they hit.

That can only mean that I am not done with this hand. I felt the pot was big enough to take a stab. But how much to bet. Do I push him all in? Do I bet pot? We have to know that he is pretty weak; but is he drawing or does have a small pair such 3rd pair or just ace high? My thoughts are that we didn't like his hand; but was going to try to hit on the turn so I put a very small bet of a little less than his remaining stack trying to make it look like I wanted to string him along. The problem is that if is drawing, he absolutely is getting the right price to come along; but then again he would be committing himself to the hand.

One thing else to mention as I noted before, I was playing pretty tight.

What did he do? He folded.

I was right; but it doesn't make it typically the right play. Klopzi was right to question it; especially at these small stakes. I heard an interesting thing on the way home tonight while listening to an old 2+2 Pokerkast with David Sklansky giving a little tidbit during a commercial break. He says these new style of 6 max players can make a good living by winning a lot of small pots. He was referring to stealing blinds, continuation betting and even firing second bullets (thanks Dubspoke for the tip and link to his blog). After the last couple of months, I whole heartedly agree with him. Maybe not on the good living part; but helping you make a good hourly rate. Anyway, that's my story and I am sticking to it.

OK, onto tonight and this is where the coolers come in. Things pretty much picked up where they lift off and I was up over 1 1/2 buyins after 272 hands. I was then handed this hand:

Full Tilt Poker $0.50/$1 No Limit Hold'em - 6 players
The Official DeucesCracked.com Hand History Converter

BB: $348.95
UTG: $249.70
MP: $192.45
CO: $198.90
BTN: $287.70
Hero (SB): $104.50

Pre Flop: ($1.50) Hero is SB with 9s 8s
1 fold, MP raises to $3.50, CO calls $3.50, 1 fold, Hero calls $3, 1 fold

Farily loose call out of position. Could have raised/squeezed.

Flop: ($11.50) Ah 4s As (3 players)
Hero checks, MP bets $7.50, CO folds, Hero calls $7.50

Turn: ($26.50) Qs (2 players)
Hero checks, MP bets $17.50, Hero calls $17.50

Normally a raise here; but the Queen truly did scare me.

River: ($61.50) 9d (2 players)
Hero checks, MP bets $44, Hero raises to $76 all in, MP calls $32

apparently, the Queen didn't scare me enough. It was one of those things that you know what he has, you just have to see it to believe it.

Final Pot: $213.50
MP shows Qd Ac (a full house, Aces full of Queens)
Hero shows 9s 8s (a flush, Ace high)
MP wins $210.50
(Rake: $3.00)

I could have only called on the river; but while I was very afraid of AQ and knew there was a good chance he had (even on the turn, I was fearful of it); but I didn't want to lose any value if I was wrong.

Then about 100 hands later, this one came up against a very well known player (at least to me who looks at tableratings.com) at these limits.

Full Tilt Poker $0.50/$1 Pot Limit Hold'em - 6 players
The Official DeucesCracked.com Hand History Converter

BB: $119.80
Hero (UTG): $205.20
MP: $101.50
CO: $100.00
BTN: $100.00
SB: $104.65

Pre Flop: ($1.50) Hero is UTG with 9d 9c
Hero raises to $3.50, 1 fold, CO calls $3.50, BTN calls $3.50, 2 folds

Flop: ($12.00) 7c 3c 5c (3 players)
Hero bets $8, CO raises to $22, BTN folds, Hero calls $14

Turn: ($56.00) 7s (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $34, Hero raises to $158, CO calls $40.50 all in

River: ($205.00) 3s (2 players - 1 is all in)

Final Pot: $205.00
Hero shows 9d 9c (two pair, Nines and Sevens)
CO shows 7h 8h (a full house, Sevens full of Threes)
CO wins $202.00
(Rake: $3.00)

That put me in negative territory until this hand came a bit later...

Full Tilt Poker $0.50/$1 No Limit Hold'em - 5 players
The Official DeucesCracked.com Hand History Converter

BTN: $74.00
SB: $102.00
BB: $103.10
Hero (UTG): $134.50
CO: $102.20

Pre Flop: ($1.50) Hero is UTG with Qs Qc
Hero raises to $3.50, CO calls $3.50, 3 folds

Flop: ($8.50) Ad Qh 6h (2 players)
Hero bets $5.10, CO raises to $16, Hero calls $10.90

Turn: ($40.50) Td (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $22, Hero raises to $83, CO calls $60.70 all in

River: ($205.90) 6s (2 players - 1 is all in)

Final Pot: $205.90
Hero shows Qs Qc (a full house, Queens full of Sixes)
CO shows As Ts (two pair, Aces and Tens)
Hero wins $202.90
(Rake: $3.00)

I called it quits not too much later after I got my 200 pts up a little over $80; but the coolers were definitely out tonight. Here's a look at the graph:

Again, I played very tight as I just couldn't get very many cards.

Stats looked like this:

18.2 / 13.2 / 2.61
3bet only 4.9%
Went to Showdown 27.1%
Won $ at Showdown 47.4%

Works out to about 14.37 bb/100

OK, onto the hand of the day.

A hand with pocket Kings...

Good Times and Bluffing

The times that you are running good need to really be cherished as they don't come around too often.

Tonight, my night looked like this:

456 Hands (1.22 Hours)

I played a typcial TAG game with stats of 21.7/14.3/2.17 . I 3 bet about 8% and I did NOT hit any sets tonight.

Went to Showdown 31%
Won $ at Showdown 70%

Here is the sick graph (for me at least) as this never really happens to me.

Everybody knows that as soon as you blog about this, you totally jinx yourself. I hope that is not the case in the future.

Yesterday, I talked about a hand (I'll have another one below this) where I turned a straight; but that card also hit a flush draw. Here is the hand in review:

Villain is your typical TAG... 17/14/2.0.. but only after 30 hands.

Full Tilt p0ker $0.50/$1 No Limit Hold'em - 6 players
The Official DeucesCracked.com Hand History Converter

SB: $120.85
Hero (BB): $120.00
UTG: $121.20
MP: $158.05
CO: $113.85
BTN: $200.00

Pre Flop: ($1.50) Hero is BB with 4s As
UTG raises to $3.50, 2 folds, BTN calls $3.50, 1 fold, Hero calls $2.50

Closing the action here, I don't mind seeing a flop. Thoughts?

Flop: ($11.00) 3c Ad 2d (3 players)
Hero checks, UTG checks, BTN checks

Anybody bet out here?

Turn: ($11.00) 5d (3 players)
Hero checks, UTG checks, BTN bets $9, Hero raises to $28, UTG folds, BTN calls $19

I check raise and get called? Shut it down?

River: ($67.00) 9s (2 players)
Hero ?

Two things were going on in my head when this happened. One of them kind of made sense and one of them didn't.

First, the one that didn't. After I made that check/raise on the turn, my focus immediately changed to another table where I was involved in a 125BB pot.

Second, after a brief time of thinking, it just seemed like a 2 pair type of hand such as A9.

So what did I do?

River: ($67.00) 9s (2 players)
Hero bets $44, BTN raises to $168.50 all in, Hero calls $44.50 all in

Final Pot: $244.00
Hero mucks 4s As
BTN shows Kd Jd (a flush, Ace high)
BTN wins $241.00
(Rake: $3.00)

I bet and got shoved on and really had to make the call. As this guy was a pretty straight forward tight player, I was pretty surprised to see him cold call with KJs; but live and learn.
Perhaps, I could have bet a little bit less and maybe could have folded. Also, maybe if I would have thought a little longer on his cold call on check raise, it probably should have sent out more warning signals.

I really didn't have any real tough decisions tonight so since I had just listened to a podcast from poker road called All Strategy about bluffing, I thought I would post a hand about bluffing from tonight to get your thoughts.

First, the podcast said that bluffing at the micro/small levels is not necessary and most likely a losing proposistion. I guess I somewhat agree; but there are plenty of players at my level that know what there doing and can fold to bets. That player was NOT the player that I was dealing with here.

The villain here is a weak passive player seeing 38% of flops and only raising 2%.

Turn: ($29.00) Kd (2 players)
Hero bets $15, BTN ??

I thought this was a good spot to bluff and I knew it wouldn't take much of a bet to find out and I actually thought a 1/2 pot bet (again given his stack size) would definitely look like I wanted a call.

Let me know of your thoughts and I will post if he called/pushed/or folded tomorrow.

Have a nice day!!

BoDonk Deja Vu and Auto Bailout

I had a good day yesterday where I was up about 3 or 4 buyins. I'll throw one hand out there for your thoughts and I will follow up with the results tomorrow.

In other news, I played in the Tuesday BoDonk again. This time, I just stayed in the middle of the pack for the most part; but found myself at the final table again and then eventually headsup with none other than Iam23skiddo again. At one point, I took over the chip lead; but I not sure I had the lead when it came to heads up. There was definitely some DejaVu going on as soon as it got to heads up, I went card dead. I ended up check raising 2nd pair only to find out that I was outkicked. So, 2nd place again for me. Good Game skiddo. I believe I am in 7th place in the leaderboard standings.

In other, other news, I was off work yesterday and sat down around 4PM to see how the stock market did that day and they were showing the Senate Hearings with the Auto Makers. I was just drawn to this and couldn't stop watching. Watching the Senators drill these highly successful (and paid) executives who were more or less begging for money just caught my attention and kept it. They definitely had to answer some tough questions around executive pay, going concern questions, why they deserve it, what are they going to do with it, etc... It was some good TV. At the end of the day, I'm sure that they will get it and then some other industry will takes it turn. We'll see how it goes.

Have a nice day!!!

Getting Back on the Blogging Horse... Maybe

I have been very bad at blogging lately. I wish I had a good excuse; but I don't. Typically, it is because I haven't be running very well and therefore I don't want to own up to it. That may have been the case early on; but I have been doing OK so far this month. It's been a really roller coaster month. I won't post a chart yet; but will start posting more stats and charts in upcoming posts.

This post is more for me organizing my plan for the rest of the year.

One of my first goals is blogging? Why, you ask? Well, let me tell you. When I first started this blog, this was a great place to journal and document my poker journey. I want to get back to that. So for the rest of the year, I want to blog once a day on the weekdays where I will document my thoughts for the day as well as show some of my interesting hands (to me anyway). What this does is makes me take a look at my hands.

Next, study more. I think it is a given by now that I don't read books. I just don't make enough time to do it. While, I'm not saying that I won't as I have 5 or 6 books that I would like to read and the holidays is always a good time to do that. So instead, I will continue to read blogs, forums and other sites like this one where I can get a Poker Tip Of the Day. Any and all tid bits that I can pick up can only help me become a better player.

On a similar note, I plan to watch more videos. I am member of Stoxpoker and Cardrunners. I want to commit at the beginning to watching 2 videos a week and hopefully more.

I'm not sure that I want to set a monetary goal because that can always change; but I want to continue to play and get better and perhaps move up a level by year end. I am still currently playing 50c/$1. Before I move up, I want to have at least 20 buyins on the particular site that I am playing on. For example, I still need to make 11 buyins on Full Tilt before I can move up even though as a total bankroll, I have more that enough to play at that level.

I'm not sure what the difference between 100NL and 200NL; but I imagine it to be a pretty big jump. It is amazing to see the amount of people that totally grind out 100NL. Currently, I am playing 4 tables at a time and that seems to work; but I am not discounting trying more tables.

OK, we'll see how it goes and starting tomorrow, I will try to post more.

Have a good day!!!!

PokerSoftware

It seems like these days, there are more and more poker type websites popping up and to be truthful; very few of them are worth going to as they are pretty much rehashes of other Poker Info type websites. On the other hand, there are some out there that are truly worth the visit over and over again. One website that fits this category is something that I have just been made aware of and that is PokerSoftware.com.

Let me start off by saying that I love using Poker Software. Anything that can help me improve my game, you can count me in. The trouble sometimes is finding this software. Before today, I've had to look in bigger forums that weren't focused on software; but now I don't have to. PokerSoftware.com has all the info I need.

As of right now, Poker Software rates and reviews many different poker programs and AHK (Auto Hot Key)scripts. These AHK scripts are really cool. I use a couple of them already; but I am excited to read about the others. They have these programs in easy to find categories such as Tracking/Analysis, Odds Calculators, Table Selection, Buddy Lists, SNG Tools, Bankroll Trackers, AHK Scripts and More. They also have video reviews of software such as this one for Holdem Manager.

Not only do they rate and review programs, they also have written articles revolving around the topic such as the most current article about Determining if Poker Software is Legit. This is really good stuff.

One of the main things I like to see in a website is a forum and is the forum active. The answer for that here is yes and yes. They a few different categories. It looks like they have about 484 members with the newest member being yours truly, WillWonka.

I'm interested to see what others are using in the way of Poker Software so I have put a poll up on my website (upper right hand side). Let me know what you use. You can select multiple answers.

So, if you are looking around for Poker Software and don't know what is worth it and will help you with your game, then PokerSoftware.com is your answer.

Sports Weekend Nightmare

To say that I am on suicide watch, may be an under statement.

Watching my Texas Longhorns come back on to lose it on the last play hurt. Then on Sunday, my Cowboys got demolished. While I was expecting them to lose, I was hoping that they would at least put up a game.

Pokerwise, I am back to playing cash and I found that I did truly miss it. Unfortunately, it started off terribly as well.

I hope to post some hands tomorrow; but here is the graph.

So, only a little over 1,500 hands; but it was brutal for a while there. Luckily, I got hot towards the hands and my big hands help up. I can tell, that I hadn't played in a while because I believe I was back to my more aggressive play.
I played at a 29/20/2.37 pace. I was 3 betting a lot more at 10.3% in position. Knowing what to do and actually doing it, is a different thing. Two barreling was also something I tried more. Many people will float the flop; but will fold the turn. We'll see how it goes this week.
Have a nice day!!!!

I totally thought I was already out of the tourney and I looked up and I was still in... with 240 chips.

To make a long story short...

87 beats KJ
Q6 beats 76
QQ buys blinds
fold
A7 beats 77

And it is a brand new ball game.

The end of the story is that I actually took er down and won the thing. A true rags to riches story.. LOL..

Have a happy and Safe Halloween

BoDonkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!

To say that I haven't been posting lately would be an understatement.

I decided to play SNGs this month to take a break from cash games. I love to play SNGs; but they don't generate the rakeback and other things as fast so I don't play them very often any more. Anyway, I should have stuck with cash games.

Here is a little taste of what I have been going through..

I went 35 SNGs without a win at the $11 level.

Things like this from earlier in the month:

ALL in preflop AA vs KJ (not sooted)..

A34 FLop... Bingo... 2.... 5.... Chop Chop

Allin Preflop... AQ vs K7... Flop 77x Turn 7.. River x... DQB

Next...

OK.. I tried $22+2 tonight...

0 for 4..

9th.. JJ lost to QQ .. villian min raise preflop and I raised.. and he pushed... should have got a way.
5th.. AKs lost to AA K high flop
4th.. 55 lost to TT 6789 board
4th.. TT lost to A3s

4 more...

5th A8s lost to ATs.. attempted button steal
7th QQ lost to AK
3rd KJ lost to A8... K high flop... A on turn
4th... A8 lost to A6 6 on river.

0 for 66

5th 33 lost to AJ bvb
4th AJs lost AQ button steal
4th 86 lost to AJs had to call.. I can't remember hand that shortstacked me a little earlier
3rd ATs lost TT button Steal
4th AQ lost to AT
3rd A6 lost KQ on all in on TAQ board... 8... Q
2nd A7 lost AT
4th Q7 lost to 55 ..... hand b4 shortstack flops 2 pair against pkt aces and pocket aces rivers straight making me the new shortstack where I promptly lose race
2nd... A5 lost to AK.. flop 658... K on river
3rd 88 lost to KK

I can't give up.. This is ridiculous.

6 more down the drain..

4th ATs lost to TT button steal
6th A3 lost to 66 shortstacked
5th A7 lost to J2 suited on KK7 flop... he was committed and called with J2s and got runner runner flush... Hand before, I pushed shortstack and lost with Q6 vs 63
5th 97s lost to JJ.. he minraised my BB and I donk pushed on 287 board
4th KJ lost to KQ.. I pushed on TKQ board
2nd.. 65s lost to AJ.. he had me 2-1 and I got caught. I had this one won twice but best hand didn't hold up ai preflop.

so yes... I went 72.. actually 73 SNGs without a win. Unbelievable!!!

But finally tonight the streak is over as I lost my first one; but then won the next 3. I didn't press my luck and I quit to play in a tournament..

Which tourney you ask? The Bodonkey II Series of course hosted by our good buddy smokkee.

To say that things went right tonight would be a gross understatement. I hit sets early and often to start things off. I was the chip leader pretty much from the get go. One little downswing under average and then the strangest thing happened.

Two people pushed with 72o offset, yes the hammer, into my big hands that vaulted me to the top where I stayed almost all night until we got to about 4 handed and then I lost some chips to a race and some bad steal attempts.

In the end, I couldn't get it done and took 2nd. Congrats to 23Skiddo himself for taking it down. LOL. I don't know how many of these, that I will get to play; but hopefully, I will get to play in some of these more often than not.

Anyway, we'll see if I can keep the posting going.

Have a nice day!!!

MOOOOOOOOOOOOKKKKKK

Sorry for the lack of posts lately... I should have a month end posting tomorrow. Definitely not a good month.

Since I get up early on Wednesday's night to make a 5:45 weekly Mens meeting, I haven't been playing all the Mookies lately. I played last week and finished 13th out of 94 so a whole lot of playing for a whole lot of nothing and boy was I tired as I was pushing 20 hours of being awake.

At the last moment tonight, I decided to play as well. I'm glad I did as I took down my 1st Mookie of the year. Gotta love it.

There is really much to add. I got AA vs KK and AA vs QQ (and they held up) early to help get me some chips.

I had a pretty big hand with the eventual 2nd place finisher Recess Rampage. This hand put me up with the leaders.

Pre Flop: (t1000) Hero is UTG with Ah Ts
Hero raises to t2000, 3 folds, RecessRampage calls t1500

Flop: (t4500) 9c Th 9d (2 players)
RecessRampage checks, Hero bets t3250, RecessRampage raises to t14250, Hero requests TIME, Hero says "figures...", Hero says "good game and good luck", Hero calls t8897 all in, RecessRampage says " dammit"

Turn: (t28794) Kh

River: (t28794) Ac

Final Pot: t28794
Hero shows Ah Ts (two pair, Aces and Tens)
RecessRampage shows Jc Kc (two pair, Kings and Nines)
Hero wins t28794

This kind of made up for a hand early where I flopped a set on an all diamond board. I played in slow/cautious and a 4th diamond came on river and I folded. I asked RR if he rivered me and he said no. Hmmm, I wonder if I should believe him. It was a multi way limped pot and he was in BB so it is possible that he flopped a flush. Water under the bridge now.

I made some tough calls later on and built a big stack to go heads up against Alan. I had an almost 5-1 chip lead and pretty much made him choose the hand. After carefully considering Alan's 50-50 chop offer, we finally made it this final hand after 6 hands of heads up.

Flop: (t39356) 8d 5c 6h

River: (t39356) 2d

Final Pot: t39356

RecessRampage shows As 4d (Ace Jack high)
Hero wins t39356

As you can see, RR had the best of it which was definitely the theme of the table. The best hands were not holding up for the most part.

Anyway, I will take the victory and move on.

Thanks, as usual, to Mookie for putting a great tournament.

Have a nice day!!!!!

Just a typical day

I know I haven't posted much and as is usually the case, it is because I am not playing well or at least, I am not winning. I am down way over 10 buyins this month.

I wanted to give a glimpse of how things are going these days by looking at all my big hands from last night. If you don't like hand histories, I guess you can stop here or move to the bottom where I will have a graph or two.

The summary is I started way up and moved way down and was winning at showdown at around 30% (which has been the norm this month which is actually at 28.5% for the month). Now, of course, this is NOT all bad beats; but I think you know what I mean.

BetFair

Background History of Betfair Poker

Betfair Poker is part of the Betfair Internet betting exchange, which began in 2000 and is now the largest online betting company in the United Kingdom.

Betfair made its name by booking all kinds of bets, typically on sporting events, and expanded to include poker and other online casino games as their operation became more successful.

Betfair Poker and Poker Champs

In 2005, Betfair bought PokerChamps.com so that they could have their own poker software to control. Prior to this, Betfair Poker made use of CryptoLogic software, which, along with Playtech, is the most popular type of online poker software.

Betfair Poker and the US.

Unlike many other poker sites, Betfair Poker never accepted U.S. players. Since there were based in the United Kingdom and drew traffic from many areas of Europe, Betfair felt no need to deal with the U.S. market, where the legality of online gambling was always in question.

After the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was passed in 2006, this feeling was borne out. However, after purchasing PokerChamps, Betfair had to divest itself of all the American players that PokerChamps had accepted.

Soft games at Betfair Poker

Betfair Poker is an official sponsor of the World Series of Poker Europe, and offers satellites to WSOPE events. The history’s first WSOPE winner is now the primary ambassador of the site – Annette Obrestad of Norway who was the youngest ever winner of a WSOP bracelet when she took down WSOPE London in 2007.

If you read an the Betfair online poker room review on your favorite poker site, you might see Betfair being mentioned as one of the best poker sites when it comes to soft opposition. As a matter of fact, being a full service online betting network, Betfair is able to draw traffic from its online casino and sportsbook to its poker site.

This usually results in juicy, profitable, action-oriented poker games, as many of these players do not recognize the level of skill required to be consistently successful at poker.

This is a factor that works for your benefit. In addition, you can assure an even better edge by playing with a top poker bonus.

Still Here

Hello... Still Here... Shoulder is getting better and I should be able to start posting more soon. I really haven't been playing any poker lately why I wait for both my shoulder and and my new monitor. I bought a 22" monitor so I am looking forward to that.

Have a nice day!!!

Shoulder Surgery and Football Season and August Graph

Sorry for the lack of posts. I had some shoulder surgery done to clean up some bone spurs or impingement's or something like that. Luckily, it wasn't rotator cuff related which should make the recovery process easier and quicker.

To tell you the truth, I am really into football right now and not much in the mood for poker. Maybe because my 20" monitor went down and i just have a little one now; but I think it mostly because of preparing for my FFL drafts and just watching football in general (both pro and college).

So in that vain, I have put a new poll which asks who you think will win the Super Bowl. I, of course, will select the Cowboys as they are the team to beat in my unbiased opinion.. NOT!!

So, I'm not sure how much poker I will play this month. We'll see how it goes.

Here is how I did in August. I had some potential; but lost a lot at the end. Here is the graph:

The graph lines show winnings and EV winnings. The lines seem to be opposite as my actual winnings was $300ish and my EV winnings were higher so I did run a little bad; but that is how it goes. I only played about 18K hands so that is lower than normal and I see that trend continuing.
Anyway, that should do it for now.
Have a nice day!!!

Good Times at Table and Rakebake Tourney

One more day to vote on your favorite podcasts. Bart Hanson's Cash Plays is winning so far and I agree that is a good one. You can vote in the upper right hand corner of blog.

On a suggestion by Alan, I moved up to 50c/$1 from 25c/50c. While there wasn't too many differences, there were subtle differences. I will hold off from commenting on those to make sure that they are the rule and not the exception from my early sessions.

Unfortunately, I was greeted with some hands that weren't really bad beats and weren't quite coolers. Things like flush over flush over flush (there were only 3 hearts on board and we all had 2 hearts). I was the middle man playing the 3rd nuts, losing to the 2nd nuts. A7 on a board of AxK7A losing to AK, etc, etc.. The good news is that after about 1,200 hands, I am more or less break even (+3.50).

I did have one pretty entertaining hand. The hand itself wasn't too exciting other than I did hit a straight flush; but the chat the ensued following the hand was pretty entertaining. Well, at least to me. Take a look.

------------

Rakeback. Everybody knows about this, right? If not, you need to. Click on either of the banners on the right to start getting rakeback, if you don't have it. I know they will also help you out if you already have an account on a site and aren't getting rakeback. Anyway, I played in the RakeTheRake $7,500 freeroll today with about 350 people. I made it to the final table sitting in 1st place by a pretty good margin. I got rivered on one hand (all in preflop) and then fell for a big bluff that put me down into the pack. To make this a short story, the disappointment was that I finished 5th for a $412 payday. The $1,900 would have been nicer. My final hand A7s hit 2 pair but was counterfeited by a higher pair. That's the way it goes. These freerolls are just another reason that you need to be getting rakeback.

Olympics. The only thing that I will say is that I loved every minute of it.

Have a nice day!!!

Hammered

If you look at Webster's Dictionary for the word hammered, you find the following definition(s)

Function: adjective
Date: 1522
1: having surface indentations produced or appearing to have been produced by hammering
2: slang : drunk 1a

I submit one more. They say that a picture is worth a 1,000 words. Well, I don't have a picture; but maybe I have the next best thing. A hand history

This came from the 13th hand of the Mook tonight. Let me preface this that I wasn't even going to play tonight as I just wasn't really in the mood, if you can believe that. How can one not be in the mood to play the Moooookkkkk..

Anyway, here it is (and the names haven't been changed to protect the innocent):

Make note of the Waffles comment about our host. hmmmm.

One further note. This was my first hand at this table as I had just got moved.

----------------------

In other news, I finally watched the WSOP 50K HORSE tourney on ESPN. I am really saddened by Scotty Nguyen's behaviour. I really hope that this is the exception and not the norm for him. I'm not going down the road of name calling because I have also heard plenty of good things about him. That was obviously not him. It was the alcohol. I personally believe that should have cut him off many beers ago. Regarding the young guy Michael DiMichelle, I personally didn't have any problems with his quasi celebrating. And to his credit, he toned it down once it was brought up.

----------------------

Luckily, I have thrown 3 positive sessions together. I didn't think that was going to happen as I got down early; but I continued to play my game and got some good hands when I needed.

Here is a graph of today's action.

I had one big hand with set over set; but other than that it was mostly small pots.

Uninspired

Wow, have I been uninspired to post lately. It is not that I haven't been playing, because I have been. It's not that I have been playing badly or having bad results as the results have been OK. They have not been spectacular either; but things are ok.

As a matter of fact, let's just take a look at my month midway through August.

Things actually started pretty good; but then had a really bad weekend. Things went a little better yesterday as I made up 1 buyin of the 4 that I had lost the previous days. Hands like this help.

How do you like the All in for Value move? I didn't expect it to work either; but nothing like giving it the college try.

-------------

For money/gas saving reasons, I am now carpooling with my wife. While I enjoy the ride into work with her, it has severely cut into my Podcast listening where there is no way that I can keep up with all of the podcasts.

I've put a new poll out there seeking your opinions on which podcasts that you like to listen to. I guess the two that I try to stay caught up on are the 2+2 pokercast and Cash Plays with Bart Hanson. I also like Poker Road Radio when it is going. Take a few seconds and let me know which ones you like. You can even vote for more than one. Also, there are plenty that I am missing, so please vote for other and let me know in the comments.

EDIT: By the way, for the best source of Poker Podcast's. Head over to Hard-Boiled Poker. He has an extensive list of most if not all poker podcasts... including the World Famous Hard Boiled Poker Radio Podcast

------------

Speaking of polls, it was pretty unanimous about the whole AP/UB thing. Most everyone would choose not to play there; but let it go as it is my money (or whomever) and you can do with it what you want. Again, it was pretty much the answer I thought I would get.

-------------

I am beginning to think more about 6max vs full ring. Having gone much from there yet; but I hope to have more on that later. I am mixing in Pot Limit in with my No Limit. So far this month, I have played 3,324 hands of PL for 11.49 BB/100s as compared to no limit where I have played 8.107 hands at a 1.55 bb/100 clip. I am going to continue to try to add more PL games into the mix.

That should do it for now.

Have a nice day!!!

Different Day, Same Results and Sports Weekend

So, I played in the Mook and finally made another final table. It had been a long while since I had made any kind of splash in this thing. Something like 46 players started and 6 paid. Luckily, I didn't bubble; but I did finish in 6th when my AKs was no match for Waffles A9 on a A9x9K board. I didn't push preflop; but I doubt that would have made any difference. At last count, I believe Waffles had a dozen knockouts. That's pretty amazing. Somehow, he didn't finish the deal. I didn't stay up to watch. Congrats to DrewsPop.

I'm getting pysched for this weekend. Of course, there will be some football and that is never a bad thing; but it is preseason. There is the PGA Championship and that is always good to watch. Any golf major and I will promptly have the DVR set. But this weekend is all about the beginning of the Olympic Games which I just love. I won't really watch the Opening Ceremonies; but after that, I will be watching as much as I can. I know Direct TV has extra channels so I should be able to get my fill.

I did play poker tonight and my luck streak or lack thereof continued. Or did it? I'm going to post all of my all in hands from the night.

OK.. for anybody that is still with me here we go. I'm not going to analyze or give player stats because this post will be about the RESULTS not the decisions. These will be in the order played. Out of the 739 hands that I played tonight, there were 10 all in hands.
