How Not to play pocket eights

I had a good session yesterday mostly on a few good hands towards the end of the day. I'll still take it.

Looking at my stats, the blinds continue to me my biggest problem. Of course, it is not unusual to lose money in the blinds; but I believe that I am losing too much and need to work on that. I've started a 3 part video on Holdem Manager from Stoxpoker by Jason Ho. Hopefully, that will help a little bit.

Speaking of the blinds, here is how not to play a mid pocket pair from the blinds.

The villain in BB is a 12/8/4.3 player over 2.1K hands.

Full Tilt Poker $0.25/$0.50 No Limit Hold'em - 9 players - http://www.thehandconverter.com/hands/136814
The Official DeucesCracked.com Hand History Converter

MP2: $50.00
CO: $29.95
BTN: $81.95
Hero (SB): $50.75
BB: $55.30
UTG: $24.10
UTG+1: $90.70
UTG+2: $49.05
MP1: $58.00

Pre Flop: ($0.75) Hero is SB with 8h 8s
6 folds, BTN calls $0.50, Hero calls $0.25, BB checks

Flop: ($1.50) 6s 7d 2d (3 players)
Hero bets $1.50, BB raises to $6, BTN folds, Hero calls $4.50

Turn: ($13.50) 9s (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets $10.40, Hero calls $10.40

River: ($34.30) 2h (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets $21.95, Hero ??

Does the BB have a set? two pair? Is there anything here that I beat? Thoughts on the hand?

Have a nice day!

Ew, nasty hand. Very awkward from out of position against aggression. I probably play it the same way and fold river. You beat a small number of whiffed draws, but given villain's line, you are very rarely good.

It's probably ok to fold the turn, even with the outs you've picked up. Reason being, your implied odds aren't that good, and you have no idea if your diamond outs are good, that adds in some negative implied odds.

I am thinking busted flush draw or 5d 8d but I don't know how this player plays besides aggressively on this hand.

His stats were 12/8/4.3 which means...

He puts money in the pot preflop 12% and raises preflop 8%. His aggression factor is 4.3 which is really high.. So he is your typical TAG (Tight Aggressive).

On the hand, I couldn't find a hand tha usually beats this betting so I folded.

Weird, I read your line as you were on a draw making ace high good on the river. Your check calling make me think you are on some kind of diamond/straight draw and your lack of raising would make any big ace good.

A few remarks:
- fold flop raise OOP;
- as played, turn is jam or fold;
- learn bet sizing;

Raise pre. Call on flop is fine since he can easily have a hand like A7. I don't think you can assume he has two pair or better. Check raise the turn. Don't fold the river (you now beat him if he had like 67).

At least the post was appropriately titled. :)
