Well, my goal to to be a winning Limit poker player did not start off well. But to be honest, I did not give a chance as I only played 6 hands. Perhaps, that is a small sample size. One of the things I am trying to improve on is my attitude going into and during the sessions and this one didn't start off well.
First, I was on hold on the phone and thought I would get in a few hands while waiting. So here is how it went.
Nothing exciting in my first hands. I folded Q7o and 82o from the blinds. The next hand from the cutoff, I got 98. Ah heck, let's but in a hand history since I know so many people like them.
One thing to note is that there are 2 main things that I am going to try to work on this year (maybe 3).
1. More aggressive from position
2. Improved Blind Play (alot more to come on this in the coming days/weeks)
3. Something that I am terrible at is table selection. I will also work on that.

OK.. not a good hand, but working on positional aggressiveness, this is an OK hand to raise. It eliminates the button most of the time and then I have position on the blinds. Since it was early, I decided to let it go to see if I could get some better reads on players.

Anyway, I would have lost on the river; but I doubt the pair of ducks would have showed down. But you never know. At 3/6 it is a certainly mixed bag of players. So really, this hand doesn't really affect you; but it is at least in the back of your mind.

This is just typically how it has gone the past few years. But like I said, I plan to docoment it a bit more this year both good and bad. At any time, you see anything that I could have/ should have done different, please let me know.

Also watched the movie Apocalypto. It took two viewings to get through as I started way late the first time and fell asleep. I will keep this one short. What was the point of this movie? Sure, Mel Gibson did a fine job putting it all together; but in the end, for me anyways, not worth the 2+ hours. It was pretty violent; but probably accurate so that is OK. I really hate violence for violence sake; but that was not the case here.

As I constantly remind myself, you can only control better and smarter; there’s nothing you can do about luckier. By better and smarter I am referring only to one’s own pay, not necessarily being superior to an opponent. I busted out of yesterday’s Poker Stars Weekly Round 2 fairly deep in the tournament when I went all-in pre-flop with QQ and got called by 6-8s. He flopped 7,9,10 and I didn’t catch the runners to take the hand back. That’s poker. In my case, a good player with a much bigger stack decided to gamble, and since I was pretty short at that point and blinds and antes were high, he may well have thought he had two live cards against a big Ace or something. In your case, a donkey calling station who had no business being in the hand spiked a very, very lucky card. That too is poker. You will win that hand 10 times out of 11 (you were an even bigger favorite on the flop) but you won’t remember any of the 10 for more than a minute or two. You will, however, remember the 1 loss for a long time – that’s poker players. With the possible exception of the crying call on the river, there is nothing that you should have done differently in that hand.

The video was exactly up my alley and yes, I'm not a very good limit player. Who knew?
One thing for sure is that I'm a stubborn person and won't give up just yet.

Thanks Alan for catching my attempted humor.
I wouldn't get totally down on limit until you play at least 12-15 hands. That will give you some good data on your own play and a great database of other players tendencies that you can exploit.
Or not. What do I know?
